At least eight family members of a man named Haji Abdul Wahab were killed last night while offering Tarawih—ritual prayer during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan—in Jalalabad city, provincial governor Ziaulhaq Amarkhel, took to his Twitter account.
The armed attack in which five sons of Abdul Wahab and three of his nephews were killed took place in the ninth district of Jalalabad city, according to the governor.
He added that initial findings indicated the family members were killed over land disputes.
Investigations into the incident were underway, he said.
Land disputes have long been a trigger of violent conflict in Afghanistan.
