During the phone talk, India’s Minister for External Affairs Jaishankar discussed the role of neighbors in Afghanistan’s peace process and assured Mr. Atmar of his country’s active role.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar earlier on Saturday met with the U.S. Chargé da’Affaires Ross Wilson in Kabul.
According to a Foreign Ministry’s statement, Mr. Wilson assured FM Atmar of the U.S.’ continued support for Afghan security and defense forces as well as his country’s humanitarian and development aids after the American troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The telephone conversation comes after the U.S. and allies’ decision of all foreign troop pullout from Afghanistan by September 11.
On Wednesday, the U.S. President Joe Biden announced American forces would begin leaving the war-torn country on May 11 and finish it by September 11, 2021.
Following Biden’s decision, the NATO said its allies also agreed to begin the troop pull out from Afghanistan on May 1.
Under a peace deal Biden’s predecessor, President Donald Trump, signed with the Taliban on late February last year, Washington and foreign allies were committed to leave Afghanistan by May 1.
President Biden and NATO allies have now pushed back that date four months from the May deadline.
