On Friday, armed Taliban had dug a tunnel, lengthed 100 meters, under residential houses to attack on the police headquarters of Qaisar district, said the ministry in a statement.
An explosion took place while the militants were placing explosives, it read.
According to the statement, at least nine Taliban insurgents were killed and another three wounded in the explosion.
There were damages to nearby houses and stores too.
There was no comment from the Taliban yet.
