Explosion Kills 2 in Northern Afghanistan

An IED placed in a wheelbarrow exploded Wednesday around 1:00pm in Balkh district of northern Balkh province, said provincial police spokesman Adel Shah Adel.

Three Afghan National Army soldiers and 13 civilians, including women and children, were wounded in the explosion, he said.

There was no claim of responsibility.

Afghanistan, already gripped by decades-long war and violence, has been witnessing a rise in bomb attacks.

The attacks, often without claim of responsibility, claims lives of civilians mostly.
