Afghanistan: About 2,000 Civilians Killed by Taliban Last Year

The Taliban group has carried out about 92 suicide attacks, more than 2,000 bomb attacks and more than 500 targeted attacks within the last one year, said Hamid Rushan, the deputy spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Interior.

About 2,000 civilians have been killed and more than 4,000 wounded in those attacks, he said.

The spokesman added that more than 3,000 landmines and 12,000 kilograms of explosives have been found and defused during this period.

The Taliban officials have not commented yet.

A human rights commission’s report has meanwhile indicated that within 13-16 of March, as many as 18 civilians have been killed and 48 others injured in armed attacks, roadside bombings as well as in magnetically attached bomb explosions.

According to Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, the Taliban and unknown armed men were behind these attacks.
