The summit will bring together representatives of Russia, the United States, China and Pakistan, as well as an Afghan government delegation and representatives of the Taliban.
According to a statement released by the High Council for National Reconciliation, the Afghan delegation led by Abdullah Abdullah, chairperson of the council who oversees the government peace talks with the Taliban on Wednesday evening arrived in the Russian capital.
Ahead of the conference, Dr. Abdullah has met with Dr. Mutlaq Al Qahtani, the Special Envoy of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar for Counterterrorism & Mediation in Conflict Resolution.
Both exchanged views on the peace process, Doha talks and Moscow conference.
The Taliban will also attend the summit with a 10-member delegation led by the group’s cofounder and deputy leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.
The conference aims to break an impasse in peace talks between the negotiators representing the Afghan government and the Taliban to end decades-long war and conflict.
Turkey, similarly, plans to host a summit on Afghanistan on April.
