Nizam Khpalwak, spokesperson for the National Water Affairs Regulation Authority (NWAR), said anti-government fighters attacked on Pashdan dam in western Herat province early Tuesday morning.
Three security forces were killed and another wounded in the attack, according to the spokesman.
Another four security members were missing, he continued.
There was no comment from the militants.
