COVID-19 Cases in Afghanistan Surpass 56,000

Health ministry in Afghanistan on Tuesday (March 16) reported 21 new COVID-19 infections and no related death in the past 24 hours.

Afghan health ministry’s deputy spokesman Mirwais Alizai said no patient has died due to coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The toll of fatalities stood at 2,459.

Also, as many as 21 new cases of infection were reported in the country, bringing the nationwide case count to 56,016.

Some 49,499 patients have recovered from the virus since the outbreak first entered the country.

It comes as Afghanistan last month began its COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The vaccination campaign against the coronavirus pandemic was launched, with representatives from healthcare, media and Afghan forces receiving the first shots.
