According to a statement released by President’s office on Monday, both held talks on Afghanistan’s peace process and accelerating it.
The U.S. envoy reaffirmed the role of the United States in bringing peace to Afghanistan.
He had also met with former President Hamid Karzai on Monday afternoon.
The office of Mr. Karzai said in a statement the former president said in the meeting that Afghan people’s demand is the success of the peace process. No excuse should lead to a delay in the process.
The U.S. special envoy to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad on Monday arrived in the capital, Kabul, and met with Afghan leaders as peace efforts are underway in Doha.
Following his trip to the Afghan capital, Ambassador Khalilzad is set to travel to Doha and other countries in the region for Afghanistan’s peace process.
It was Khalilzad’s first trip to Afghanistan and the region under U.S. President Joe Biden. He remained on the job as peace negotiator after President-elect Joe Biden took office.
