Dawa Khan Meenapal, a president’s spokesperson, tweeted Monday that President Ghani signed a letter dismissing Attorney General Hamidi from his post.

According to the spokesman, the Afghan Attorney General resigned for personal- and family-related issues.

President’s spokesman did not elaborate who would replace him.

Sources, however, have said Alam Stanikzai has been appointed as new attorney general.

Four years ago, Afghanistan’s Lower House of Parliament passed a vote of confidence to Farid Hamidi, approving him to be the attorney general.

He has held two BA and two MA degrees.
