COVID-19 in Afghanistan: Total Cases Hit 55,733

The coronavirus total case count hit 55,733 in Afghanistan after it registered 19 more coronavirus infections over the last 24 hours.

At least 19 people tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic within the past 24 hours, according to health ministry’s data released Sunday.

The country recorded one COVID-19 death during the same period.

The new patients died from the illness pushed the total deaths to 2,444, according to ministry’s figures.

Also, 45 patients having been contracted with the COVID-19 disease have recovered over the past 24 hours, bringing the toll of coronavirus recoveries to 49,333.

It comes as Afghanistan last week began its COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The vaccination campaign against the coronavirus pandemic was launched on Tuesday, with representatives from healthcare, media and Afghan forces receiving the first shots.

According to health ministry’s data, at least 8,206 healthcare workers have been vaccinated since the start of campaign.
