A car belonging to Abdul Qahar Qadeer, member of Nangarhar provincial council, struck a roadside bomb Saturday around 12:20pm local time, said police spokesman Farid Khan.
The explosion took place near the sixth district of Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of eastern Nangarhar province.
One civilian was killed and Mr. Qadeer himself wounded in the attack, according to the spokesman.
Zahir Adel, spokesman for the regional hospital of the province, also said one dead body and a wounded person was taken to hospital.
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.
