COVID-19: Afghanistan Reports 7 New Infections

Health ministry in Afghanistan on Saturday (February 27) reported seven new COVID-19 infections and no related death in the past 24 hours.

Afghan health ministry’s deputy spokesman Mirwais Alizai said no patient has died due to coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The toll of fatalities stood at 2,443.

Also, as many as seven new cases of infection were reported in the country, bringing the nationwide case count to 55,714.

The new infection cases were registered in Kabul, Helmand, Nangarhar and Khost provinces.

Some 49,288 patients have recovered from the virus since the outbreak first entered the country.

It comes as Afghanistan last week began its COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The vaccination campaign against the coronavirus pandemic was launched on Tuesday, with representatives from healthcare, media and Afghan forces receiving the first shots.

According to health ministry’s data, at least 4,634 people have been vaccinated since the start of campaign.
