In a statement released Wednesday, the Presidential Palace said President Ghani and the U.S. senior official discussed bilateral ties between Afghanistan and the United States, the Afghan peace process and cooperation of the two countries in the process.
The U.S. Secretary of State praised the sacrifices Afghan forces have made in counterterrorism.
According to the statement, both highlighted the role of regional and international diplomatic support in the success of the peace process.
Earlier on January too, the United States’ top diplomat spoke with President Ghani regarding U.S. commitments to enduring his country’s partnership with Afghanistan and the Afghan peace deal.
The conversation comes as peace talks between negotiators representing the Afghan government and the Taliban negotiating team have become stalled.
