In a statement, the provincial media outlets of Nangarhar province said the operation was carried out Sunday night in the seventh district of the capital of Jalalabad.
The militants planned to carry out assassinations, place sticky bombs and set up suicide attacks in the provincial capital, but were killed before hitting the target.
As many as four suicide vests, three AK-47, dozens of hand grenade and some explosives and other military equipment were seized from the militants.
The militant group has not commented yet.
