In a statement released by Ministry of Interior on Saturday, February 6, the government investigators have met with influential figures in Behsood district of Maidan Wardak province and assessed the security situation in there.h
The ministry added in its statement that it will thoroughly probe into civilian casualties during the peaceful protests which turned violent after
Allah Dad Fedaiee, Maidan Wardak’s police chief, has been summoned for investigations, according to the statement.
Legal proceedings will be taken for any violations, it continued, without releasing details of the findings.
On Friday, January 29, residents of Behsood district gathered in front of district headquarters, but the peaceful protest turned violent after police forces allegedly shot at residents, killing eleven and wounding 25 others.
Mehdi Rasikh, the representative of Maidan Wardak at the Lower House of Parliament, said security forces have shot at residents, leaving many people wounded.
The Ministry of Interior, however, said the leadership of provincial police chief had been staying in Hesa-e-Awal and Hesa-e-Dowom since days to introduce new police chiefs for the districts. But Alipour’s men gathering in front of district headquarter were trying to impede police and security forces to be there and opened fire at security forces and people.
According to Tariq Arian, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, a number of security forces, five residents and seven irresponsible armed men were wounded and at least nine people said to have belonged to Abdul Ghani Alipour were killed during the protests and clashes.
Following the incident, Afghan Interior Ministry announced a delegation will depart for Behsood district of Maidan Wardak province to thoroughly probe into armed clashes in the district.
