The Council of Paris on Tuesday last week unanimously voted to place a plaque in the 8th district of Paris.

It reflects a deep friendship between Afghanistan and France, the Afghan Foreign Ministry said.

According to ministry’s statement, honoring national figures boosts unity among countries around the globe to jointly fight against terrorism, bring peace and stability and honor modern and globally humanitarian values.

Ahmad Shah Massoud was Afghan politician and military commander at his time.

The national hero, Massoud fought the Taliban and Russia. He was assassinated by al-Qaeda and the Taliban in a suicide bombing back in 2001.

His death happened just two days before the September 11 attack in the United States.
