Scores of Taliban fighters had gathered last night in Nawabad Abdal village of Takhar province, said Khalil Aseer, spokesman for the provincial police chief.
They faced government forces ambush, killing at least three and wounding another one.
Two weapons of the militants were also seized from the militants.
The Taliban have yet to comment.
