Afghan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding for mutual consultation.

On his last day in Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with the Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for Gulf States Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf and inked the memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation.

“Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Nayef Fallah M. Al-Hijraf to discuss the latest developments in the Arab world and the Afghan peace process, at the end of his three-day visit to Saudi Arabia, on Friday evening,” according to statement by Foreign Ministry. 

Both emphasized the “friendly relations” between Afghanistan and Arab states in the Gulf Cooperation Council and “called for the expansion of political and economic relations and cooperation in the field of education and culture.”

“Under the MoU, Afghan Foreign Ministry and the GCC officials will hold regular consultative meetings on economic, political, security and cultural cooperation,” read Foreign Ministry’s statement.
