The ministry announced in a statement that Taliban planned to attack Afghan National Army last night, but the attack was fended off by government forces.
At least 15 Taliban were killed and another twelve wounded during the overnight clash, read the statement.
As many as four Afghan soldiers were also killed, according to the statement.
The insurgent group has not commented yet.
