As next rounds of peace talks are scheduled to begin today with government negotiators set to fly to Doha after three weeks pause, U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan peace and reconciliation expressed hoped over tangible progresses.
“I return to Doha and the region with expectations that the parties will make tangible progress in the next round of Afghanistan Peace Negotiations,” U.S. peace envoy Khalilzad wrote on Twitter.
Both sides must compromise and agree on a political settlement which is in best interest of the war-torn Afghan nation, ambassador Khalilzad tweeted, calling for an immediate ceasefire.
He also expressed concern over the high levels of violence in Afghanistan, calling it “unacceptable.” “Those perpetuating the violence seek to undermine the peace process and the country’s future,” he tweeted.
