Speaking at a press conference Saturday in Rawalpindi, Pakistani interior minister Sheikh Ahmad Rasheed said there are about 1.5 million Afghans with “legal status”.
However, another 800,000 Afghan refugees live in Pakistan illegally, according to the interior minister.
“We have data of 1.5 million Afghan refugees having legal status and about 800,000 Afghans living in the country illegally,” he spoke to reporters at news conference.
There was no reaction by the Afghan government.
