The country’s intelligence agency—the National Directorate of Security—said Sunday in a statement its forces have arrested two suspects known as Deendar and Rahmatullah with ties to Haqqani network and other terrorist groups were behind a plot to target a journalist working for Gharghasht TV.
The suspects arrested before succeeding to commit the murder, according to the source.
Attacks against journalists and media workers have seen a rapid increase in Afghanistan. They are targeted either in sticky bombings or targeted killings but often unclaimed.
The attacks have prompted people’s outcry who accuse government of failing to protect its citizens.
According to figures provided by NAI media watchdog, the organization which supports open media in Afghanistan, at least seven journalists have been killed in the last two months across the country.
