Afghanistan Registers 183 New COVID-19 Cases

The Afghan health ministry announced Tuesday (December 29) that the country has now registered 52,330 coronavirus cases and a total of 2,189 deaths since the outbreak.

In the last 24 hours, 183 more people tested positive for the highly contagious coronavirus, and 10 additional people have died after contracting it, a tally by the Afghan health ministry indicated.

Herat province saw the largest increase in cases with 54 positive tests within the last 24 hours.

The capital Kabul is the second province to have registered the highest coronavirus cases, where the health ministry reported additionally 36 cases in the past 24 hours.

The rest 93 new lab-confirmed cases were registered in 16 provinces of the country.

Another statistic has also indicated a rise: the number of patients recovered from the illness. According to health ministry data, 191 additional patients recovered from the novel coronavirus, bringing the toll to 41,801.
