In the last 24 hours, 160 more people tested positive for the highly contagious coronavirus, and 12 additional patients died after contracting it, a tally by the Afghan health ministry indicated.

Another statistic was also on rise: the number of patients recovered from the illness. According to health ministry data, the recovery toll has hit 41,331 after 319 patients got better during the last 24 hours.

At least 1,752,878 people worldwide have died from COVID-19 and more than 79.8 have been infected by the virus that causes it, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December.
