Indonesia Ready to Host Intra-Afghan Talks

President Ashraf Ghani’s office announced that Mohammad Jusuf Kalla former Vice President of Indonesia and head of Muhammadiyah Movement, an Islamic non-governmental organization in the southeastern country of Asia, met with the President Thursday at palace where they discussed the role of Indonesia in the Afghan peace process.

Mr. Kalla said his country was ready to hold a conference where Muslim clerics/Ulema can gather and discuss Afghanistan’s peace process, according to the Presidential Palace’s statement.

President Ghani’s office further quoted Indonesian former Vice President, saying that his country was also ready to host next rounds of intra-Afghan peace talks.

Referring to the recent escalation of violence in Afghanistan, the Indonesian former Vice President urged the Taliban to end the violence.

President Ashraf Ghani appreciated Indonesia’s willingness for hosting the intra-Afghan talks and added that the country has experience in peace-building and this is where its role in the Afghan peace process comes to the fore.
