Taliban fighters stormed security outposts belonging to government forces in Nawa district of southern Helmand province Wednesday, said a statement by Afghan Ministry of Defense.
The attack was thwarted, leaving at least 21 Taliban insurgents killed and another nine wounded.
The ministry did not elaborate on the casualties inflicted to Afghan forces.
Helmand Province has long been a hotbed of insurgent activities, having been considered as one of the most dangerous provinces in Afghanistan.
The group officials have not commented yet.
