Afghan Women’s Rights Activist Shot Dead 

An Afghan female women’s rights activist has been shot and killed by unknown armed men in Afghanistan’s north-eastern Kapisa province.

Freshta Kohistani, who was said to be a women’s rights activist, came under armed attack along with her brother in her hometown in Hesa-e Awal Kohistan district of Kapisa province Thursday evening, Tariq Arian, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior confirmed.

According to the spokesman, Kohistani lost the battle for her life but her brother wounded. 

There will be a thorough investigation into the incident, Mr. Arian further added.

The incident underscores an increasing trend of violence against representatives of the civil society and women rights activists. 

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
