Gen. McKenzie met with President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul to discuss the Afghan peace process and U.S. supports for the government forces, the statement said.
According to the statement, the U.S. commander reaffirmed his country’s commitment for the support of Afghan forces.
His visit to Afghanistan comes as there has been a surge in violence after opening peace talks between Afghan government and the Taliban.
The intra-Afghan negotiations has stemmed from a landmark deal the Taliban signed with the U.S. in February in Qatar. That deal was intended to pave the way for an end to decades of war in the country.
