Rahmatullah Nikzad, Afghan journalist, working for different media outlets as well as head of the provincial union of journalists was killed by unknown armed men near his house in Ghazni city, the provincial governor confirmed.
He was shot when going to a nearby mosque, the governor said.
The perpetrators managed to flee the area.
No one claimed responsibility, and the Taliban denied to be behind. “We consider this killing a loss for the country,” according to a spokesman for the group.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack on prominent journalist and instructed security officials to begin an investigation into the incident and hold the perpetrators to account.
Nikzad’s assassination follows the death of many journalists in recent months who were targeted by gunmen or killed mysteriously.
