Mohammad Naeem Wardak, a spokesman for the political office of the Taliban said on Twitter that the co-founder and the political deputy of the group, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, along with a delegation from the political office, called on the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
According to the spokesman, issues related to Afghan refugees, travel to the neighboring country, with a particular focus on education and health were discussed.
“The issues of the current situation in the country were also discussed during the meeting,” said the spokesman.
Imran Khan’s office has meanwhile announced the Prime Minister said that the intra-Afghan talks provide a “historic opportunity to Afghan leaders” for lasting peace and stability through the Afghan peace process.
He has also voiced concern over the escalation of violence in Afghanistan, calling on the warring parties to reduce violence leading to a ceasefire.
The Taliban spokesman further maintained that PM Imran Khan said his country supports peace in Afghanistan which has been gripped by long-decades of war.
Earlier this week, Pakistan’s Prime Minister held telephone conversation with President Ashraf Ghani, reiterating Pakistan’s steadfast support the Afghan peace process leading to a political solution to the conflict.
