U.S. forces carried out an airstrike against Taliban fighters in Zhari district of southern Kandahar province on December 10, tweeted Army Col. Sonny Leggett, a USFOR-A spokesman.
This strike in defense of the ANDSF was in accordance with the U.S.-Taliban peace pact signed late February. “The Taliban’s claim of civilian casualties are false,” he tweeted.
Earlier the Taliban claimed the U.S. strike has hit residential houses, leaving at least ten civilians killed.
“In recurrent violation of the agreement, American forces carried out airstrikes last night on a non-combat zone of Laku Khelo area in Zhari district, Kandahar province,” read a statement by group’s spokesman. “…multiple civilian homes were destroyed and up towards 10 people martyred,” it added.
