Armed Taliban fighters attacked security forces in Osmankhel and Khanikhel areas of Maiwand district in southern Kandahar, said the Afghan Defense Ministry in a statement.
The attacks were fended off, according to the statements, killing at least five militants, including a group’s key commander.
A vehicle with a number of weapons were also diminished.
The Taliban officials have yet to comment.
