Scores of Taliban fighters has gathered in Zare district of northern Balkh province to attack Afghan forces, said the ministry in a statement.
Afghan forces launched air and ground attacks, leaving six of the fighters killed and another four wounded.
According to the statement, a group’s hideouts was also destroyed.
The Taliban officials have yet to comment.
