The presidential decree was released Wednesday, November 18.

Under the decree, those Pakistani prisoners would be freed whose imprisonment term ends within one month.

Those prisoners who were fined but could not pay their fines would also be released, as per the decree.

Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq welcomed President Ghani’s decision for releasing his country’s prisoners.

“Pakistan is grateful for the goodwill gesture of President Ashraf Ghani to order the release Pakistanis imprisoned in Afghanistan on humanitarian grounds,” he tweeted.

The Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan paid a visit to Kabul on last week where he met President Ashraf Ghani and government top officials.

During his visit, the two countries agreed on a shared vision to support peace and stability in both countries and the region.
