Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, condemned “terrorist” attacks on civilians in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, blaming the U.S. for being “directly” responsible.
Dozens of rockets were fired into several parts of Kabul city, according to Afghan officials, putting the toll of casualties to eight killed and 31 wounded.
The First Vice President Amrullah however said Sunday a death toll from the attack had risen to 10 while 51 others have been wounded.
One of the rockets landed in the premises of Iran’s Embassy in Kabul, leaving no one hurt, the embassy said in a tweet.
Iran Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh expressed sympathy with the government and people of Afghanistan and called the attack “an example of the proxy war and activities of the terrorist allies of the U.S. in Afghanistan”.
He confirmed at least one rocket hit the internal premises of Iran’s Embassy in Kabul, inflicting no harms to the embassy’s staff.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.
