Armed Taliban stormed security outposts Tuesday night in Qaramqol district of northern Faryab province, said the provincial police spokesman Abdul Karim Yourish.
The district police chief of Qaramqol, named Safar Bedar, who was on way to provide support for the government forces under the Taliban attack was killed along with his five men after his vehicle hit a roadside bomb, Mr. Yourish added.
Hanif Razaiee, a spokesman for the 209th Shaheen Army Corps meanwhile said at least six Taliban have been killed and three others wounded during clashes in the district.
The Taliban have not commented yet.
