A massive car borne IED blast following which the Taliban militants attempted to begin clashes with Afghan forces was averted as Afghan security forces detected a vehicle fit with explosives in southern Helmand, said Abdul Qadir Bahadurzai, a spokesman for the 205th Maiwand Army Corps.
Afghan forces foiled the attack plot after they found a car rigged with explosives in Greshk district of Helmand province, Mr. Bahadurzai spoke to TKG.
The car was destroyed before hitting the target, said the spokesman, nine militants were killed.
The spokesman added the car bomb wounded two members of Afghan National Army too.
The Taliban group has not commented yet.
