A massive attack was averted by Afghan forces as they foiled a bid to set off a Taliban car bomb last night in a security outpost belonging to uprising forces in Paktia province, said the provincial governor’s spokesman, Abdul Rahman Mangal.
Mr. Mangal confirmed the attack, saying it was averted before hitting its target.
He put the toll of casualties to at least two soldiers killed and another one injured.
The bombing was followed by armed clashes at the scene, with Afghan forces thwarting it.
There were casualties reported to the Taliban militants, said the governor’s spokesman, without mentioning the exact number of casualties.
The Taliban officials have not yet commented.
