Religious scholars declared war in Afghanistan as forbidden in Islam as they gathered at a one-day conference in the Bangladeshi capital city of Dhaka, to urge the Taliban for ending violence against Muslims, said Gran Hewad, a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
These clerics called the insurgent group to declare ceasefire and instead discuss main peace issues, the spokesman continued.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed declarations made by scholars in the South-Asian country.
It comes as Afghanistan’s religious scholars also gathered Sunday, denouncing the ongoing war in the country. They urged an end to what they called a “power tussle” between the government and the militant group.
