The fighting on Sunday night took place after the Taliban stormed Afghan forces’ convoy in Chaharbolak district of northern Balkh province, said the corps.
Government forces fended off their attack, inflicting heavy casualties to the group’s fighters.
According to Hanif Rezaiee, a spokesman for the corps, at least 20 Taliban militants have been killed and another ten were wounded in clashes with Afghan forces and airstrikes carried out during the fighting.
The government official put the toll of casualties to Afghan forces to three wounded.
The Taliban, however, said three government forces have been killed during clashes.
