COVID-19 in Afghanistan: Death Toll Jumps to over 1500

Afghanistan’s death toll from the novel coronavirus surged past 1,500 on Wednesday, October 21, after two more patients died in the past 24 hours.

The country’s health ministry reported 141 new cases of the COVID-19 strain out of total 468 suspected cases.

This pushed the nationwide case count to 40,510 infections.

The toll of recoveries stood at 33,824 as 34 infected patients got better after the illness.

Afghanistan has experienced relatively low infection and death rates in recent weeks, but cases on Wednesday again indicated a rise in daily cases.
