The Taliban stormed checkpoints in Hairatan of the northern Balkh, on Friday evening, which was thwarted by Afghan forces, said the 209th Shaheen Army Corps.
The group’s militants also attacked on Chamtal district of the province, according to the corps’ spokesman Hanif Rezaiee, who added it was also fended off by government forces.
At least 11 Taliban, including a commander of the group’s Special Forces (Red Unit), were killed after the attacks triggered clashes, the spokesman for the army corps added.
The Taliban officials have yet to comment.
