The Afghan government and Taliban negotiators held their second general meeting on Wednesday evening, discussing contested issues, said Nader Naderi, a member of the government negotiating team.
“A meeting between the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan with the other side was held this evening,” Mr. Nadery took to Twitter. “The heads & members of both delegations discussed disputed issues and emphasized that the contact groups meet again to present solutions,” he added.
A spokesman for the Taliban’s political office, Mohammad Naeem Wardak, also said in a video footage shared on social media that delegations from the Afghan government and the Taliban met yesterday at a second general meeting between the two sides.
“…the contact groups were instructed to continue their discussion to resolve the dispute [over procedures and rules],” he said.
Afghan and Taliban negotiators have been meeting in Doha since Sept. 12 and are still working out on procedures and related issues for the intra-Afghan talks aimed at ending Afghanistan’s longest war.
The agenda of peace negotiations on issues to be covered and how to be negotiated will be discussed and agreed to after both sides come to an agreement on the rules and procedures.
These long-awaited intra-Afghan talks are aimed at ending nearly two decades of war in Afghanistan. They were first scheduled to begin on March 10, but were repeatedly delayed due to the disagreements over the controversial prisoner swap process.
