Police spokesman Adel Haidar said the fighters attacked a security outpost in the district on Tuesday night, triggering fierce fighting with government forces.
At least three Taliban fighters were killed and another four wounded in clashes, said the source.
Afghan forces have seized a number of their weapons, according to Mr. Haidar. No government forces were killed or injured, he continued.
The armed militants pronounced killed or wounded belonged to Taliban’s Haqqani Network, according to the spokesman, but the group has yet to comment.
