Armed Taliban planned to attack on Afghan forces in Malid and Bedak areas of Takhta Pul district, but were ambushed by Afghan forces, said Jamal Naser Barekzai, a spokesman for the provincial police chief.
According to the police spokesman, at least eight Taliban fighters were killed and three others were wounded in clashes with government forces.
No casualties were reported to Afghan forces.
The insurgent group has yet to comment.
