Tareq Arian, a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI), said on Monday, August 10, that armed Taliban have killed at least 80 civilians and wounded another 95 after the ceasefire that was announced on the occasion of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.
The civilian casualties either were caused by the group’s “offensive attacks” or roadside bomb blasts, according to the MoI’s spokesperson.
The armed group has yet to comment on MoI’s data.
The Taliban declared a three-day Eid al-Adha ceasefire in Afghanistan that took effect at the end of July. Following the group’s announcement of the ceasefire, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani welcomed the truce, instructing the Afghan forces to also comply.
