Nuristan’s governor, Abdul Ghafoor Malikzai, came under armed attack last night in Chapa Dara district of eastern Kunar province, the police chief of Kunar confirmed to TKG.
According to the source, the governor was on the way to his home as gunmen attacked.
He survived the attack, but two of his bodyguards were injured.
No one so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
Earlier in June, Hafez Abdul Qayum, the former governor of Nuristan province also came under the attack of gunmen in Kabul’s Sorubi district. He survived the attack, but one of his bodyguards was killed and another injured.
