COVID-19 Cases in Latin America Exceed 5 Million

More than 5 million people have been infected with the coronavirus pandemic in Latin America and a total of 203,572 COVID-19 patients have died so far, according to a Reuters tally.

Global infections passed 18 million, with Brazil driving the regional surge. South America’s largest country has recorded 2.75 million cases and 94,665 deaths – nearly half of the total deaths in Latin America.

The figures announced by Reuters indicated that more than 4.73 million people have been infected with the coronavirus across the United States, while the data brought the country’s total deaths to 155,937.

In India, which has the third highest number of coronavirus cases behind United States and Brazil, the total of confirmed infections has risen to 1,803,695 with 38,135 related fatalities.

Russia, the fourth country with the highest number of infections has so far registered 856,264 coronavirus cases. The total deaths, as a tally by Reuters indicated, hit 14,207.

Russia is then followed by South Africa, Mexico and Peru.

The death toll in Mexico was brought to 48,012, marking the country as the third country with highest number of coronavirus related deaths.
