Speaking in the inauguration ceremony, Sediq Patman the provincial governor said electronic ID cards generate a variety of benefits, including state building, social and economic development, and improving security.

This cutting-edge electronic card replacing paper IDs can be easily obtained, said the governor. He called on the residents of Khost province to take and submit the application form to the center to later be provided with their e-NICs.

“As you know, this is a good step taken by the government and plays a vital role in transparency and in [obtaining] an accurate statistical [information]. It has been a demand of all Afghans and is hoped the cards distribution and delivery process is started as quickly as possible,” Mr. Patman said.

A trainer of the electronic identity cards, Ajmal Rahmani, meanwhile said that the electronic ID systems has an enhanced data security that no one is able to tamper with.

“It is a global system. Our data will be registered in many places,” said Mr. Rahmani. “No one can tamper with,” he continued.

Speaking to TKG’s reporter, a resident of Khost province, Sahib Gul Farhad, said the most important aspect of e-ID cards, instead of using a flimsy document, is providing convenience.

“…it provides convenience. E-IDs takes us from a flimsy paper document [to a simple card] that won’t let us face problems,” said Mr. Farhad, adding, “It has a direct effect on a reduction in criminal activities.”

So far, at least 1,500 application forms have been distributed to residents of the province, as per the province’s information.

Trainers from the capital Kabul will conduct sessions to teach the staff working in the agency, after which a formal electronic-ID cards distribution process will begin, said authorities in the provincial statistics department.
